Glaucoma is one of the main Causes for irrenessible loss of vision. Once maximum medical medication does not suffice to control IOP, surgery is a must. This is to improve the outflow. During cataract surgery, the cataract is removed and a new lens is placed into the eye. These lenses are termed intraocular lenses, or IOLs. For patients undergoing cataract surgery, there are many new options in IOLs. In glaucoma, the changes to vision include loss of visual field and decrease in contrast sensitivity. Cataract surgery alone on an eye with glaucoma will sometimes lower the pressure in the eye. For patients with more serious glaucoma and the need for cataract surgery, a combination cataract removal and glaucoma filtering procedure can be considered.
